Bottled water with an odd taste and smell sold at a Woolworths store

Bottles of smelly water with an odd taste sold at a Woolworths store were most likely contaminated by a damaged pipe where the product was manufactured. Customers who purchased 600ml bottles of Pureau water in Melbourne recently complained to the manufacturer about the taste and smell of the water. The manufacturer told 7News that 12 pallets of the water were sent from Pureau’s Sydney factory to Woolworths Dandenong store on August 29. A Pureau spokesman said the issue was caused by repair work to a drain pipe that was located under the bottle line. “The line itself was broken some metres underground, and there was a smell evident from the drain,” a spokesman said. “These repairs were carried out as soon as the issue was identified, however the smell was evident for some time following the rectification work. “We believe that this smell may have created the odour issues evident in some of the bottles from this day’s production run.” The spokesman said they had changed their procedures while the odour was evident, which included a drain flush and air movement via fans where necessary. “We hope that the work has resolved the issue and the smell resolves itself short term,” the spokesman said.
