A popular children’s toy remains a threat more than a year after it was recalled from shelves, with supermarket Aldi concerned it is still being used in a few households.

Aldi last year recalled the $20 Jack ‘n’ Jill wooden block sets (farm, jungle and ocean) that were sold at stores between June 10 and September 9 due to a choking hazard posed by small magnets.

The small magnets on the wooden toy posed a risk of choking, suffocation or death for young children.

The chain reminded parents on Monday that the toy’s recall remained active following a low number of returns over the past 14 months.

“Aldi takes product safety seriously and due to the low number of returns, we wish to remind customers of an active recall of the Jack ‘n’ Jill – wooden block sets,” the company said on its Facebook page.

“If you have not already, customers should immediately stop use and return the product to your nearest Aldi store for a full refund.”

The ACCC had originally ruled that the small magnets on the wooden toy that detached from the blocks posed a risk of choking, suffocation or death for young children.

“OMG – just put mine in the bin. So glad I saw this, 18 month old loves them,” wrote one commenter named KP Parry.

Other recent Aldi recalls include the Snackers Market tasty cheese and mini crackers 35g and Snackers Market tasty cheese and pretzels 40g, the Lumina electric blanket, and the Sohl Furniture recliner chair.
