Aussie actor Hugh Jackman has paid tribute to his “tremendous friend” Patrick Stewart after his devastating death.
The 86-year-old Star Trek actor passed away at his LA home on Wednesday following a battle with Alzheimer’s disease and Lewy body dementia.
In a heartbreaking post in the hours after his death was announced, Jackman shared two photos of the pair alongside a heartfelt caption.
“We lost one of the greats of stage and screen today. And, in my book, a tremendous friend and man,” Jackman said.
“I learned so much from him.
“I will miss you, Patrick Stewart, all of my days.”
In the first photo, Jackman and Stewart are pictured together on the side of a stage, with Stewart’s hand seen on Jackman’s shoulder.
The second photo shows the friends laughing together as Jackman embraces Stewart in what appears to be a more recent photo.
Jackman and Stewart acted together in multiple films — most famously as the Wolverine and Professor Charles Xavier duo in the X-Men film
Celebrities and fans flooded Jackman’s post with their own tributes, with Spanish-British actor Dafne Keen commenting: “A giant amongst men. He will be so very missed ❤️❤️”
Over his career, which spanned more than six decades, Sir Stewart worked on more than 150 films and television productions.
He was best known for his roles as Jean-Luc Picard in the Star Trek franchise and Professor X in the X-Men film series.
Sir Stewart’s death comes two days after Star Trek co-star Walter Koenig died, aged 90, of old age.
