Actor Robert Downey Jr. has confirmed he’s “done” with Marvel movies for good, ruling out his return as one of the franchise’s most popular superheroes.

Speaking to Jason Bateman, Will Arnett and Seas Hayes on their SmartLess podcast, the 55-year-old, who played Tony Stark in Iron Man and several other spinoffs said he was over being a superhero.

“That's all done,” Downey Jr. said.

“As far as I'm concerned, I hung up my guns and I'm good to let it go.

The actor made his first appearance in a Marvel movie in 2008 as Iron Man before donning the costume again for two Iron Man sequel in 2010 and 2013.

Downey Jr’s character also featured in seven other Marvel films, the most recent being 2019’s Avengers: Endgame where Tony Stark was killed in battle.

He reportedly made more than $200 million from Marvel alone becoming one of the highest earning members in the cast.

Last year he made The Forbes 100 list of the top earning celebrities alongside five other Avengers: Endgame actors: Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Scarlet Johansson, Paul Rudd and Bradley Cooper.

It comes as Apple announced last month its plans to work with Downey Jr.’s Team Downey, for an upcoming straight to series drama.

Based on true events, the untitled project will follow a Canadian detective who opens decades old cold cases who dreams of becoming a hero.

Downey Jr., his wife Susan Downey and Amanda Burrell will executive produce for Team Downey, with Downey Jr. also looking for a supporting role in the series, making it his first regular TV role since he played Larry Paul in Ally McBeal almost two decades ago.

Adam Perlman will serve as writer and executive producer and Michael Lista will co-executive produce.
