Aussie rockers Powderfinger have confirmed two Perth dates for their 2027 reunion tour — but bad news for Fremantle Dockers fans with both shows almost certain to clash with a vital AFL final.
Perth’s first show is locked in for Friday, September 24, with the legendary rockers backing up 24 hours later on Saturday, September 25.
That is the date traditionally set aside for the AFL Grand Final, but the league has already confirmed next season’s decider will be played a week later than usual, on October 1.
However, it means the AFL’s two preliminary finals will almost certainly clash directly with Powderfinger’s Perth gigs, both of which will take place at Wellington Square in East Perth.
Should the Dockers produce another season to rival their history-making but ultimately unfulfilling 2026 campaign, there is every chance they could be running out at Optus Stadium in front of 60,000 footy fans at the same time Bernard Fanning and his band take the stage for up to 25,000 rockers at Wellington Square.
A heartbreaking choice for some — and a logistical nightmare for public transport in Perth, especially if it happens on the Friday.
The two-month tour, running from early September to late October 2027, will mark the group’s first tour in 17 years.
Announced on Monday, the band describes the shows as a “rock n roll circus”, with each performance staged inside a stadium-sized big top.
The band told fans about the reunion tour last week via a short social media video, before confirming early Monday that pre-sale tickets would go on sale this Wednesday.
The tour begins with four shows in the group’s hometown of Brisbane before moving through Cairns, Perth, Sydney, Adelaide and Melbourne.
So far, the tour consists of Friday and Saturday shows only, with 18 performances scheduled.
Support acts will not be announced until November but the band has confirmed the shows will feature an all-Australian line-up.
