Australian-born Queen Mary stuns as she watches the sunset at Uluru during homecoming visit with husband King Frederik X

Stunning photos have captured Australia-born Queen Mary watching the sunset at Uluru during her homecoming visit with her husband King Frederik X.

Queen Mary touched down in Uluru on Saturday afternoon, waving to onlooking media as she and her husband stepped off the plane at Ayers Rock Airport.

It is the first time she visited the country since her husband took to the Danish throne, with the trip also marking the first official visit of any Danish monarch in 40 years.

Queen Mary sported a chic long white skirt with a beige blouse and brown belt as she visited the Uluṟu-Kata Tjuṯa National Park Cultural Centre, where she and King Frederik were greeted by senior Aṉangu, the traditional landowners of the park.

The Tasmanian-born queen was all smiles as she arrived at the centre with her husband, where they learned about the creation of the land.

They watched an Inma ceremony, which is a song and dance that connects Aṉangu to their ancestors, before the pair were greeted by the regional director of the National Indigenous Training Academy Phill Pallas at the Kulata Academy Cafe.

They finished the night by watching the sunset at Uluru.

They listened as a senior Aṉangu spoke of the history and cultural significance of the landmark for Aboriginal people.

Queen Mary sported a hat and a shiny gold watch during the trip.

The royal couple will travel the country during their trip between March 14 and 19.

The couple – who, in true fairytale style, met at the Ship Inn Hotel in Sydney at the 2000 Olympics – landed in Perth on Friday evening for the first official visit of any Danish monarch in 40 years.

They said they were looking forward to the visit in a social media post on Friday night.

“On the way! We have been enormously looking forward to the reunion with Australia and the whole country’s population,” the post, with Men at Work’s Land Down Under anthem accompanying, said.

“A lot has happened since we met here more than 25 years ago! See you soon, Australia!”

The royal pair’s first tour down under in 13 years will also include stops in Canberra – where they will meet the Prime Minister and attend a state dinner in their honour – and Melbourne.

It will end in Hobart, where Mary was born and spent much of her childhood.

They will be joined by a delegation of 55 Danish businesses.

Mary and Frederik have made four official visits to Australia, in 2013, 2011, 2008 and in 2005, but this is their first since being crowned King and Queen in 2024 after his mother Queen Margrethe abdicated.

The Queen herself was last in Australia for a solo visit back in April 2023.

The pair met at the Slip Inn pub during the Sydney 2000 Olympics, and later married in May 2004.

They have had four children – Crown Prince Christian, 20, Princess Isabella, 18, and 15-year-old twins Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine.
