Ms Snook, who was relatively unknown before landing the role as the youngest of the Roy children in HBO’s Succession, will appear on stage from January 2024 for 12 weeks – in what is sure to be her most demanding acting endeavour yet.

Adapted and directed by Sydney Theatre Company’s artistic director Kip Williams, the play has had successful runs in Adelaide, Auckland and Melbourne.

Williams uses live cameras and pre-recorded video during the production to bring the story to life, with Ms Snook in every role.

The performance runs for two hours with no interval. It is not the actress’s first time on stage in London as she appeared in The Master Builder opposite Ralph Fiennes in 2016.

‘I am elated to return to the London stage in such an astonishing piece of theatre,’ said Ms Snook.

‘From Oscar Wilde’s remarkable original text to Kip Williams’ stunning adaptation, this story of morality, innocence, narcissism, and consequence is going to be thrilling to recreate for a new audience. I can’t wait.’

She told the BBC it would be an ‘exhilarating challenge’ to take on all 26 roles.

Williams said: ‘In creating a new piece of theatre like The Picture Of Dorian Gray, you always hope to have the opportunity to share it with a wider audience.

‘I am so excited for theatre lovers in London to experience our show and am thrilled to have the extraordinary Sarah Snook bringing to life the many characters of Oscar Wilde’s remarkable story.’

Ms Snook was last on screen in the Succession finale last month. The star – who gave birth to her first child with comedian husband Dave Lawson just weeks before the show’s finale – will have only seven months to prepare for her rigorous role.

Wilde’s only novel, published in in 1891, tells the story of the aristocratic Gray who sells his soul to maintain his beauty while a portrait of him ages. There is a colourful cast of characters that Ms Snook will inhabit, including artist Hallwood, the wicked Henry Wotton and the charming Duchess of Monmouth.
