VideoKarl Stefanovic has been terminated from his Australian Radio Network contract, marking his second dismissal within a week.

Karl Stefanovic has announced he’s about to “break his silence,” in a new interview with Piers Morgan.

It comes just hours after it was reported that he has lost his radio gig with Eddie McGuire and just weeks after his departure from the Nine Network following controversy surrounding a podcast interview.

Posting on X, Stefanovic captioned a video: “Karl breaks his silence. Piers Morgan 6pm (presumably AEST).”

The video is a teaser clip of his podcast The Karl Stefanovic show, and was recorded just hours after news broke that he’d been fired from the Today Show last week.

“The interview I didn’t think I’d be doing,” Morgan starts off saying.

“Life is funny,” Stefanovic replied.

“Are we just going to pretend that we are going to now do the interview we were going to do where you were going to interview me about life after morning shows?” Morgan said.

“Because it does seem a bit ridiculous Karl because literally in the last few hours you’ve just been fired. What has happened?” he asked Stefanovic.

“So...” Stefanovic responded before the clip ended.

Morgan posted ahead of the interview airing, saying “Last Wednesday, I was on a boat in Cannes waiting to be interviewed by Australia’s biggest TV star @karlstefanovic for his new podcast. But while he was flying from London, he got fired. So, I ended up interviewing him. It’s an amazing conversation. Drops soon.”

Earlier on Wednesday it was revealed ARN had dumped the embattled former broadcaster from his still-new radio hosting gig.

Stefanovic had been a co-presenter with Eddie McGuire on The Long Weekend, a weekly Friday program on the network’s Pure Gold.

Stefanovic is not expected to return, according to reports by the Sydney Morning Herald and Australian Financial Review. McGuire had previously said Stefanovic would be in the chair this Friday, and would expound on his experiences over the past couple of weeks.

The deal was reportedly worth about $200,000 for the remainder of the year. McGuire is expected to continue hosting the program, which may now be reshaped around him.

Stefanovic and McGuire had only recorded two episodes before Stefanovic’s absence last week amid the fallout over his softball “interview” with thrice-convicted criminal and ultra right-wing British anti-immigration agitator Tommy Robinson.

Stefanovic featured Robinson on The Karl Stefanovic Show, an independent podcast he launched at the start of the year, unconnected to his long-time job as the host of Nine’s breakfast program, Today.

Stefanovic was criticised for his favourable treatment of a such a divisive figure. In the hour-long interview, Stefanovic physically embraced Robinson, whose convictions include those for assault and fraud, and told the agitator he admired him for his “courage” and “tenacity”.

After days of controversy, Stefanovic and Nine came to terms to end his decades-long tenure at the TV network with immediate effect. The terms of his exit from Nine, where he had $1 million remaining on his contract for the rest of 2026, are not publicly known.

The Nightly has reached out to Stefanovic’s agent and ARN for comment.
