Glenn A Baker, music journalist and broadcaster, dies of an illness at age 74 after celebrated career

Celebrated Australian music journalist and broadcaster Glenn A Baker has died at the age of 74.

Long-time friend and colleague Stuart Coupe shared the news on Friday morning in a social media post.

“This is a post that I was hoping I wouldn’t be making for a considerable period of time but after an illness Glenn A Baker passed away earlier this morning,” he wrote.

“I’m beyond sad.”

Baker’s career spanned more than 50 years, and he won the BBC’s Rock Brain of the Universe three times in the 1980s.

He contributed to the project that established youth radio station 2JJ, which eventually became triple j, before he moved to Triple M.

The rock music expert co-established Raven Records, an Australian record label.

Baker was the editor of Billboard magazine for more than two decades, published 17 books, as well as 600 albums’ sleeve notes, and co-wrote music.

He said in 2018 that he owned 80,000 records and 30,000 CDs.
