Learning a new skill with a drink in hand — it seems to be all the buzz in Perth right now.

From pottery and wine to whisky and watercolours and champagne with cookie decorating, it’s a fun way to foster creativity while sipping a tipple.

The latest pairing that is causing a buzz is gin and floristry, with The Flour Factory offering Petal Heads workshops with renowned Perth florist Rebecca Const, aka Fox and Rabbit.

Const plans to guide students in arranging a native bouquet bursting with colour and will give tips on flower selection, structure and presentation.

She has hosted similar events before and says they have swiftly sold out.

“This workshop has a focus on Australian native flowers, so you can support our local farmers while highlighting the beautiful flora surrounding our great State,” Const says.

“Attendees will create a small hand-tied bouquet to take home, sip on a botanical gin and tonic and enjoy nibbles by the wonderful Flour Factory chefs.”

As a longtime creative, Const says she enjoys seeing more boutique workshops than ever pop up in Perth.

“I think this is such a beautiful idea,” she says.

“There is a place for formal, detailed, intensive workshops and courses for people looking to diversify their skills or tackle a change of career.

“However, there are also those simply seeking a fun afternoon with friends — sipping bubbles and playing with flowers.

“This style of format, in a relaxed bar as opposed to a classroom, is all about the fun, rather than the formal. Guests are guaranteed to have a great time no matter the skill level.”

Petal Heads is on at Flour Factory on September 10 and 23 as part of the Gin and Tonic Gala.

The program of events also includes Yin and Gin, Clash of the Gins and the Gin Carnival Finale.
