A popular meat product has been removed from supermarket shelves after the food safety watchdog raised the alarm over undeclared allergen fears.
Murray River Smoke House Turkey Bacon is being recalled after undeclared milk allergens were discovered in the product.
Food Standards Australia and New Zealand issued the recall warning for 150g packages of the item marked with all use by dates up to and including May 28, 2026.
The product has been sold at independent supermarkets in New South Wales and Victoria.
Customers with a milk allergy are being warned to not eat the product or risk becoming unwell.
“Any consumers who have a milk allergy or intolerance may have a reaction if the product is consumed,” the watchdog wrote in the recall statement.
“Consumers who have a milk allergy or intolerance should not consume this product.
“Consumers should return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund. Any consumers concerned about their health should seek medical advice.”
The meat product is the latest item to be pulled from shelves after an IKEA homeware utensil was recalled on Friday.
The homeware giant’s aluminium chrome-plated 365+ Vardefull Garlic Press poses a potential risk of laceration because small metal pieces in the item can come apart during use.
“We are issuing a recall reminder for the IKEA 365+ VÄRDEFULL Garlic ress, Black,” the statement reads.
“Due to a production error, identified after an internal investigation, indicating a risk of small metal pieces detaching during use and subsequently being ingested with the food leading to customer injury.”
Customers who purchased the garlic press with the date stamp of 24/11 until 25/22 are urged to stop using the item immediately.
Effected consumers can receive a full refund by contacting IKEA. No receipt or proof of purchase is required.
