Skoda has revealed its updated Superb Scout, which should catch the eye of those wanting a jacked up European wagon but lacking the funds for premium badge.

In the mould of the Audi A6 Allroad, Mercedes-Benz E-Class All Terrain or Volvo V90 Cross Country, the Superb Scout is a large wagon with greater ground clearance (15mm more) and underbody protection for those wanting a bit of ruggedness and outdoorsy capability.

In keeping with the trend of those other jacked-up wagons, the Scout is offered in a single, high-spec variant Skoda says is the comparable in value to the Superb Sportline trim which has comprised almost half of current generation Superb sales.

Standard includes a pair of firsts for Skoda in Australia: full LED Matrix headlights and a petrol particulate filter.

However, Skoda Australia director Michael Irmer stressed the 200kW/350Nm 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder engine still needed premium unleaded fuel, despite the filter withstanding petrol with 50 parts per million of sulfur,.

“At point of sale the vehicles will feature mirror hangers emphasising this point,” Irmer said.

“Additionally we have developed high visibility fuel cap stickers. Sales teams will reinforce this message. Our view is that all Australian motorists would benefit by the mandating of premium petrol as standard.”

Other standard gear includes LED rear lights with dynamic indicators, 9.2-inch infotainment system, CANTON premium sound system, Virtual Cockpit driver display, digital radio, heated front and rear seats and more.

At $59,490 it isn’t exactly cheap, but is still far more affordable than the aforementioned wagons.

Somewhat unusually, the Scout will precede the updated Superb sedan and wagon range into showrooms, as the latter won’t arrive until late this year.

The Scout has been sourced to sell in the interim, however only 300 will make it to Australia.
