Whether your goal is to relax and cool off during those long hot summer days or you’re vying for a gold medal at the 2024 Olympics, the bespoke Grand Duke by Sapphire Pools will ensure you have a splashing good time doing it.

Measuring 16m long by 2.5m wide and with a constant depth of 1.4m, the design provides the perfect training facility for keen swimmers.

Sapphire Pool’s Business Development Manager Darren Godden said a Nedlands-based client came to him requesting a lap pool that was longer than the run-of-the-mill backyard splash zone.

“Since the client’s wife is an avid swimmer, they required a design that would satisfy their swimming needs,” he said.

“To meet their expectations, two pools were spliced together to create the Grand Duke.”

With over 20 pool colours to choose from and a large selection of tiles, clients have the ability to set the theme of their backyard oasis.

“The clients chose Sky Blue, which has an eye-catching light blue shade, as their pool colour,” Mr Godden said. “Thanks to the colour having reflective speckles, their pool shimmers brilliantly from every angle, especially when under the sun.

Selecting Ibiza travertine tiles to complement the Sky Blue finish, Mr Godden said the clients were thrilled with the result, contrasting beautifully with their backyard greenery and the sky during the day.

Four inset blue LED lights were also installed to create a stunning effect at night.

Pool safety is a constant topic of conversation, particularly when children are around and throughout the summer period when the majority of time is spent outdoors.

Safety ledges on both sides of the Grand Duke provide an ideal rest point for children when they are learning how to swim and, combined with two side-entry steps at both ends, there is always somewhere to stop and relax.

A backyard swimming oasis is not complete without some extra features added to the surrounding landscape.

With this in mind the homeowners added a separate spa to utilise throughout the cooler months and evenings, and perhaps to aid recovery post-swim.

An outdoor shower, toilet and sauna were also added to the pool surroundings to create an elegant and luxurious pool area perfect for entertaining.

“At night, the majestic beauty of their pool is further highlighted with the addition of an outdoor fireplace,” Mr Godden said.

With its slim width, the Grand Duke can fit into narrow backyards or side-of-house installations.
