Water matters school kits: Creating a lasting water future for generations to come

Do you know where your water comes from? Did you know that if you turn off your tap while brushing your teeth, you’ll save a bucket of water?

These are some of the questions the Water Matters education resource kit is answering across your local schools.

With rising temperatures, more extreme weather events and changing rainfall patterns across Western Australia, our relationship with water and understanding has never been more important.

That’s where the Water Matters education resource kits come in.

Exploring how water is supplied, how it can be used wisely, and our relationship with it. These kits are aimed at helping students better understand and value water.

Regional School Education adviser Annalis Harbin said the kits are designed to bring learning to life, connecting students with water challenges and opportunities unique to their local environment.

“For more than 30 years, Water Corporation has worked with tens of thousands of students, creating meaningful learning experiences that encourage lasting waterwise behaviour and support a sustainable water future for our communities,” Ms Harbin said.

“Our regional education kits continue this legacy by giving teachers the tools and confidence to explore water supply, conservation, and sustainability in the classroom,” she said.

“Crafted specifically for kindergarten to Year 6 students, our kits will help students explore how our region’s water systems provide water for today, and how the choices we make can protect our water for tomorrow.”

How does it work?

Through hands-on and play-based activities, students will explore and learn about a range of topics from discovering water to our water processes and people and sustainability. Each kit aims to help students build a deeper understanding of water, Country and community.

Available for schools to loan for free, each kit includes curriculum-aligned lessons tailored to local water stories, giving you the tools to teach water supply, water conservation and water sustainability with confidence.
