Albany Pride festival set to be biggest in regional WA as 2022 events line-up revealed

Albany Pride is gearing up to host WA’s biggest regional Pride festival with a dazzling line-up of events set to drive tourists to the south coast later this summer.

The fifth Albany Pride Festival will be a celebration of the region and its thriving LGBTQIA+ community from February 18-27.

Theatre shows, musical acts, sporting events, drag bingo, a gala dinner, a boat cruise, drag queen storytime, and a Mardi Gras Party are just some of the diverse events set to bring the town alive.

February 26 will be a highlight with the return of the Albany Pride Fair Day, with live music, food stalls, children’s entertainment and the popular dog show promising to be a family-friendly day out.

Albany Pride president Annie Arnold said this year’s festival would be the biggest yet, with events to entertain everyone.

“I am delighted we are once again in a position to be bringing so much fun and diversity to town, but this year we are really pulling out all the stops,” she said.

“Our festival committee has worked tirelessly all year getting this program together, ensuring we are catering to all demographics and making sure that, at least for this short period of time, Albany will be the most fun and most accepting place for queer people in WA.”

Albany Pride executive committee member Lupo Prenzato said the committee aimed to show visitors the best of our region.

“We have been working to provide events that showcase the best of Albany so that visitors to the region can fall in love with Albany and want to return,” he said.

“We want the Albany Pride Festival to be an annual tourist event that brings visitors to the region year after year, so we’ve worked with local businesses that rely on tourism to make that happen — we want people to come to Albany and to look forward to returning again.”
