Albany Rallysprint brings big crowd and tough competition to Middleton Beach for weekend of fast-paced action

Tarmac Events returned to Albany over the Labour Day long weekend for the annual Albany Rallysprint, with hundreds of drivers and spectators getting in on the action at Quaranup, and Middleton Beach. The weekend was divided up into two race locations, with both hosting sprint and rallysprint events for more than 100 competitors. Racing started on Sunday at Quaranup, with drivers navigating the narrow road and tight turns in a challenging time trial. Troy Wilson and Bianca Zahra won the rallysprint on day one in their 2010 Mitsubishi Evo X, and Matt James-Wallace claimed the sprint win in his 1993 Nissan GTR R32. On Monday, the event moved to Middleton Beach, with drivers facing a completely different challenge in the climb up Mt Adelaide. Hundreds of spectators took advantage of the clear skies and warm day to get down and watch the action, lining the barriers near the start line and finding viewing points all the way up the hill. Jensen Herbert and Ben Searcy took the overall win in the day two rallysprint with their 1998 Subaru Impreza WRX STI, and Julian O’Hara took out top prize for the sprint in his 2006 Lotus Exige S.
