Eurasia faces his acid test in listed Aquanita Stakes

Consistent three-year-old Eurasia will regain the services of top senior jockey Paul Harvey when he tackles the Listed $100,000 Aquanita Stakes (2000m) on Saturday at Belmont Park.

Trained by Albany’s Steve Wolfe, Eurasia will contest the black-type feature for three-year-olds and is drawn ideally in barrier one but Wolfe was cautious on his chances.

Eurasia ran a strong third behind the impressive Chantrea last start over 1700m but prior to that his form was mixed following a commanding class three victory in Bunbury back in March.

Wolfe said he would be happy if his galloper could run in the money.

“The distance is a bit of a risk but there is no races around for a horse like him,” Wolfe said.

“I hope he goes well but we aren’t going in with too much confidence.

“If the track isn’t too chopped up he might run an OK race.”

Harvey has steered the Eurozone gelding to one win and two seconds from four rides.

Eurasia enters the feature race as an outsider despite having won three of his 15 career starts and being placed on eight other occasions.

Meanwhile former Albany resident Holly Taylor will have her first runner in a Listed race when she saddles up progressive type Cousin Ivan, also in the Aquanita.

The three-year-old has only had three career starts but has shown plenty after winning on debut and ran a huge race last start to finish fourth behind No Apology.

Alan Kennedy will ride the Albany-owned galloper who will jump from barrier six.

Taylor will also start Narrogin Cup winner Burning Pride for the first time, after securing her from Grant and Alana Williams’ yard.

Sowar, Apollo and My Greek Boy will race in Wolfe colours on Saturday.
