Ksharna Coyne, Megan Green and Emma Henderson latest GSFLW players to debut in WAFLW competition

Star trio Ksharna Coyne, Megan Green and Emma Henderson have all made their WAFLW debuts in the past fortnight as a strong contingent of Great Southern talent do the region proud in Perth. The Great Southern Football League Women’s competition has a growing list of players who have moved to Perth to pursue their dream, showcasing the rich talent in the region. Railways midfielder Coyne, Royals tall Green and Denmark-Walpole star Henderson have become the latest from the Great Southern to play their first WAFLW game. In round one on March 29, Coyne was handed her debut for Peel Thunder and was outstanding in their 50-point win over Perth. Coyne, who won the GSFLW fairest and best award in 2019, finished with 17 disposals, three marks, two tackles and two inside-50s in her first game. Claremont had the opening round bye but Green and Henderson made their debuts in round two, as the Tigers beat West Perth on Friday night. Henderson collected 12 touches and laid two tackles while Green had six possessions and three inside-50s. That pair were joined in the Tigers side by Royals product Taylah Orzel as they won by 25 points. Orzel is a WAFLW premiership player after playing her part in Claremont’s grand final win last year and won the GSFLW top award in 2022. She had 13 disposals, two marks and three inside-50s to kick off the new campaign. North Albany’s Pippa Wilson and Mt Barker’s Chelsea Williams both played their first Rogers Cup games for Claremont on Friday. Kangas junior Mabel Markey also featured in the Tigers side that went down by two points. The Tigers have a strong Great Southern contingent on their list with Laura Cinanni (Railways), Marlee Ashton (Albany) and Samantha Waltho (Albany) not playing in the first game.
