After more than a decade of service to netball in the region, Rosemary Wolter was recognised with life membership of the Albany Netball Association earlier this month.

Wolter’s life membership was passed at the ANA annual general meeting on October 28.

Life membership of the ANA recognises the valuable contribution of an individual who demonstrates significant, sustained and high-quality service enhancing the reputation and future of the association.

Wolter joined the ANA back in 2009 and is still helping the improvement and growth of netball in the Great Southern.

Not only has Wolter been an integral part of the ANA, she has also been involved with netball in the wider Great Southern since 2002, when she began as a senior co-ordinator for the Denmark Netball Association and she is also a life member of that association.

Wolter said this recognition wasn’t just her award.

“It’s special to me to receive life membership and it’s recognition of what I have done but probably more recognition of the support of the committee in the background, that has helped me as well,” she said.

“It’s not just about me but it’s about everybody being out there and working together.

“Since I started they have been a very proactive committee and a committee prepared to change.

“I just love the sport, netball is a passion.

“When you’re in country towns it’s a sport that gets you into the community, and it’s the social side of the town.

“To top it all off was the Netball WA award as well, life membership was bloody awesome but to get that as well topped everything off beautifully.”

She currently holds voluntary positions in the ANA, DNA and dedicates plenty of time to the Great Southern netball region and the newly formed Great Southern Netball Association.

Wolter coached Magpies A1 side for five straight season from 2014-18 and won two premierships and she also coached an association members side from 2016-20.

In 2017, the ANA created an association development officer within the executive committee and Wolter has been in the role for the past four years.

This year Wolter not only was the ADO and an association coach, she was also a board member of the GSNA, coached the Magpies A2 team and was assistant coach of Magpies A1 side.

Wolter was also recognised at the recent Netball WA awards held at RAC Arena on November 15 along with Albany’s Latrice Porter.

ANA president Trish Hines nominated both ladies for their respective State awards.

Wolter received the Netball WA Coach Achievement of the Year award for her role in mentoring, presenting courses and all the components of coaching.
