WA dominates travel guide Lonely Planet’s 100 best beaches in Australia, with two local faves making the list

Two stunning Great Southern beaches have been named among the best in the nation by travel guide Lonely Planet.

Albany’s Misery Beach and Elephant Rocks at William Bay National Park, near Denmark, have both been named in Lonely Planet’s top 100 in Australia.

They are among 20 WA beaches selected by the publication.

Lonely Planet also compiled other themed lists, including top five picks for wildlife, camping, snorkelling and for families.

Misery Beach should be sought out by “more adventurous” travellers, according to the guide, and was listed as the fourth best beach for bushwalking.

The guide’s top 100 list is unranked, with other WA sites making the hit parade including The Basin on Rottnest Island, Turquoise Bay in Exmouth and Hellfire Bay in Cape Le Grand National Park.

Of the 20 WA beaches named, just one is located in Perth, with Cottesloe keeping the crown as the city’s best.
