A former athlete has told a court that Alan Jones directed him to change into “a robe and nothing else” before the veteran broadcaster touched his penis on several occasions at his Southern Highlands farm.

Mr Jones’ sexual touching and indecent assault trial resumed in Sydney’s Downing Centre Local Court on Tuesday for day two of evidence.

Mr Jones arrived at the court on Tuesday flanked by his lawyers.

The ex-2GB host has pleaded not guilty to 20 counts of indecent assault and two counts of sexual touching relating to six alleged victims and has consistently denied touching the alleged victims or kissing them.

The charges related to alleged incidents at Mr Jones’ Circular Quay apartment, his Fitzroy Falls farm, at his work premises, the Gunners Barracks restaurant at Mosman and at social functions across Sydney between 2003 and 2020.

One man, who can only be known as “Complainant J”, is giving evidence to the court and is the first witness in the trial.

Cross examination begins

J is being cross examined by Mr Jones’ barrister Gabrielle Bashir about whether he had read some of the allegations against the ex-2GB host before his arrest.

The court has heard that some of the allegations against Mr Jones were made in the media in December 2023.

J has said he remembered reading about Mr Jones’ arrest in November 2024.

He said that prior to the arrest, he heard about allegations being made about Mr Jones but did not remember reading specifics.

He said he did not remember news stories which made allegations relating to a 17-year-old boy.

“It’s the first I’ve seen it,” J said about one of the news stories which was shown to him in court on Tuesday.

‘It’s the right thing to do’

J has told the court that he began receiving $400 weekly payments — paid fortnightly — from Mr Jones in August 2003.

The weekly payments went up to $500 and eventually $600, the court was told.

They ended in October 2012 when J received a call from Mr Jones’ accountant and was told that the payments were going to stop.

At the end of his evidence in chief, J maintained that he had told the truth.

“I’m going to be 100 per cent honest, I feel like I’m here because I haven’t been able to say no and stand up for the right thing,” J said.

He said if there were other alleged victims, he had to “come forward” and tell “my side of the story”.

“I don’t want money,” J said, adding he wanted “justice”.

“It’s the right thing to do,” J said.

“People need me to do this.”

‘Froze’

J said at this point: “My heart was racing. I was as scared and nervous as I had been in a long time.”

It has been alleged that Mr Jones grabbed J’s penis while they were sitting on the bed.

J said that Mr Jones let go of his penis and put it on his own before they both masturbated together.

Afterwards J showered and said he did not see Mr Jones again that night.

Asked by Crown prosecutor Georgina Wright why he masturbated, J said he “froze” and “I thought if I do this myself, it’s going to be over.”

He added he thought: “It was the quickest way to get it over and done with”.

J also told the court that Mr Jones kissed him without his consent, at the radio presenter’s Sydney apartment building — known as The Toaster — on another occasion.

Mr Jones has denied all the allegations against him and listened intently as J gave his evidence via videolink on Tuesday.

The bedroom

J has told the court on Tuesday that after going to bed, Mr Jones knocked on his bedroom door and came in.

J said he was still wearing a robe when Mr Jones motioned for a cuddle and pulled him in for a “sloppy” kiss which he described as having a “chomping motion” with “saliva everywhere”.

In his evidence to the court, the ex-athlete said that Mr Jones undid his robe and pulled J’s underpants down.

J said that Mr Jones, who undid his own robe, began swivelling his hips so their penises began crossing and touching each other.

‘There are no rules’

J has told the court that Jones touched him on the penis at his Fitzroy Falls farm.

The man told the court he had wine over dinner with Jones before the broadcaster told him: “You’ve got to remember there’s only one rule here, and there are no rules.”

J told the court on Tuesday that Mr Jones directed him to have a shower and was told to “come out with a robe and nothing else”.

He came out in a robe, but wore underpants, J said.

“I almost knew what was going to happen,” J told the court, adding “he wants me to come out in the nude” and thought “he’s going to touch me”.

J told the court that when he went back out, that Mr Jones undid his robe and commented: “I said the robe and nothing else.”

Mr Jones touched J’s penis over his underpants in a rubbing motion, the man told the court on Tuesday.

J said that Mr Jones asked “Is this ok?” to which he replied “I haven’t done this with a man before.”

Mr Jones stopped at that point, J said, and commented he was going to bed.

‘Really good boy’

During his evidence to the court on Monday, the former champion athlete told the court that he met Mr Jones in a professional capacity at a young age before they became friends and Mr Jones supported him financially.

The court has been told that Mr Jones paid him $600 a week, so that he did not have to get a job, and bought him a car.

J told the court on Monday that after Mr Jones allegedly kissed him in Canberra, he told him he had “been a really good boy” and increased his payments.

The man told the court his family struggled financially growing up and “I never had the comfort of financial support”.

He told the court during his evidence on Monday that Mr Jones kissed him twice inside his Circular Quay home – once after watching tennis on TV together and on another occasion inside his office.

He said he did not consent to either kiss.

J also told the court that Mr Jones squeezed his penis while he was driving the former Wallabies coach to his Fitzroy Falls farm in the Southern Highlands.

‘Rivalry, treachery, double dealing’

He has told the court that Mr Jones repeatedly nodded off during the journey and woke up in a startled state.

J told the court that Mr Jones placed his hand on his leg and then moved it up to his penis.

Complainant J told the court that Mr Jones said “what’s that?” and he replied “that’s my penis”.

J has told the court that Mr Jones replied “I thought it was your leg” and “well does it feel good?”.

He veered to the left sharply as Mr Jones grabbed him, J told the court.

He has told the court that Mr Jones undid his belt and pulled his penis out of his pants while the former radio kingpin was in the passenger seat.

Complainant J has told the court that Mr Jones kissed him another two times after arriving at the Fitzroy Falls farm – once while standing near the car after they arrived and once near a pig pen.

In her opening statement, Mr Jones barrister Gabrielle Bashir attacked the credibility of “Complainant J”, saying it could not be excluded that he “concocted his account”.

In her opening arguments, Ms Bashir attacked the credibility of all six complainants.

“Rivalry, treachery, double-dealing, money, hatred, desperation, opportunism and more are all at the heart of this case,” Ms Bashir said.
