Bunbury residents have been encouraged to get involved in the Push Up Challenge to help raise awareness about mental health issues.

Headspace Bunbury is taking part in the challenge to complete 3046 push ups between May 11 and 31.

Centre community development officer Madison Harper said the challenge could be completed solo or within a group.

“The Push Up Challenge is designed to raise awareness around mental health,” Ms Harper said.

The total number of 3046 push ups is the amount of Australians who lost their lives to suicide in 2018, so that’s the total goal to get to bring that awareness to the community around mental health and also raise funds for their local Headspace centre.

“Each day is a different number of push ups which also represents a mental health statistic as well.

“It really raises awareness around mental health with each push up we do.”

Ms Harper said people could take part at home or support the challenge by donating.

“It is a really good time to have the Push Up Challenge to really keep people aware that mental health is a really ongoing thing, especially with what is happening in the world at the moment,” she said.

“Also that sense of community and everybody kind of reaching for the same goal of the push ups, it can help keep everybody connected.”
