Wanneroo bushfire downgraded to ‘advice’ warning

Firefighters have contained a bushfire which was threatening lives and homes north of Perth.

An advice warning is still in place for people bounded by Caporn Street to the north, Garden Park Drive to the east, Saponara Drive to the south and San Teodoro Avenue to the west in the northern part of Wanneroo.

Firefighters have been actively fighting the fire, which started about 1.33pm near Caporn Street.

“[The fire] is contained and under control,” Emergency WA said in the alert.

“Avoid the area and be aware of fire and emergency services personnel working on site.

“Firefighters are on the scene, patrolling the area and mopping up. Currently there have been 2.5 hectares burnt.

“Motorists are asked to avoid the area, reduce speed and drive carefully due to smoke.”

A number of roads have been closed including Caporn Street from Pinjar Road to Franklin Road.

Close all doors and windows, and turn off evaporative air conditioners but keep water running through the system if possible.
