Busselton gets a dose of Benny Mayhem in a fundraising tour to help Koalas

WA folk punk troubadour Benny Mayhem is hitting the regional roads this weekend on a mission to help koalas affected by bushfires.

Beginning in November 2019, a three-month series of bushfires burnt through 1.2 million hectares, destroying koala habitats and putting the species at risk.

All proceeds from the free musical events will be donated directly to Wildlife Victoria with assistance from Rotary International.

Travelling with Benny’s Koala Fundraising Bucket, the musical front man said by simply enjoying a night out, South West locals could make a “real difference”.

“Our aim is to cover as much of Western Australia as we can,” Mayhem said.

“We’re going to bring our high-energy, WA sound back to the many regional venues we regularly play at, and to as many new ones as we can.

“We have created a fundraising bucket that will be travelling with us as part of a large social media campaign to generate as much interest as possible.

“We hope every night people will come to each venue to listen to three sets of great music and donate to this very worthy cause.”

Kicking off the fundraising this Friday, Mayhem will perform a solo acoustic show at Dunsborough Lakes Tavern.

The rest of his band will join him from Coolgardie as they visit other regional locations including Kanowna, Monkey Mia, Paraburdoo, Marble Bar, Karratha, Newman and Point Samson.

Ending the tour as he started it, Mayhem will perform a solo acoustic show once again at Denham’s Shark Bay Hotel on July 18. The show will run from 5pm-8pm
