Busselton police were overwhelmed with the support they received last month at their fundraiser for the Police Family Assistance Council.

The quiz night rounded up $30,000 to aid the family of Sen. Const. Tim Concannon, and Sen. Sgt Manus Walsh said the night was a huge success.

“We ended up sold out. We had 192 people attend and 98 businesses contribute to the fundraiser from across the South West, and as a result of that we were able to raise $30,000, which has been donated to PFAC,” Sen. Sgt Walsh said.

“(PFAC) have supported the Concannon family previously and also support other police officers who are experiencing some sort of trauma or need.”

Sen. Const. Concannon’s wife Nina has had brain cancer, and since undergoing surgery she has experienced $120,000 worth of complications — money the family is struggling to pay.

Busselton police and the Capes community rallied behind the family at the quiz night to shine light on a difficult situation and provide them with some monetary relief.

“We’re really privileged to have people in the community who were able to support us and support others,” Sen. Sgt Walsh said.

“A massive thank you to Cape Naturaliste College and their principal Mark Gillett for allowing us to hold the function at their facility — that really made things a lot easier for us.”

Sen. Const. Concannon’s situation has prompted Busselton police to establish the Busselton Blue Family Association, which now exists to promote similar initiatives to PFAC, assisting local officers in traumatic situations.
