Busselton Jetty chief executive Lisa Shreeve and marine biologist Sophie Teede are set to speak on best practices in WA ecotourism at December’s Global Eco Asia-Pacific Tourism Conference held in Margaret River.

Global Eco is an idea hub to discuss innovation and best practice with keynote speakers on infrastructure, investment, quality, conservation and land management.

Ms Teede and Mrs Shreeve will speak as parallel plenary speakers in the conference program.

Ms Teede first presented at the Townsville conference in 2018 and said she was looking forward to the opportunity to gather with industry professionals again.

“Global Eco is an international conference and it makes me proud to represent the Jetty to a world and nationwide audience,” she said.

Ms Teede’s presentation will highlight the value of fish and marine-protected areas to ecotourism.

For the past 28 years, the conference has attracted world leading ecotourism operators, protected area managers and tourism professionals championing business networking through a focus on practical and applied ecotourism.

Mrs Shreeve will present the implications of COVID-19 for the evolution of ecotourism.

She said the jetty’s unique marine experiences and its contribution to global environmental research over the years prompted her to want to be involved in the conference this year.

“We thought it was a good opportunity to discuss these with other ecotourism professionals and industry people,” she said.

The conference will be held between December 1 and 3 at the Margaret River Heart.
