Education and efficiency are on the agenda for Busselton Water this week as it launches a new waterwise program for Capes irrigators.

The Waterwise Garden Irrigator Program is an initiative aimed at reducing the City’s water waste, and irrigators are urged to become “endorsed” as water-savvy via an online course.

Busselton Water managing director Chris Elliot said the program was important to increase education around best water practices.

“Whilst our groundwater aquifers are replenished by rainfall, the impacts of climate change and our drying climate means that our water source is finite,” Mr Elliot said. Nutrien Water branch manager Mark Jury said it was a busy time for irrigators with warmer weather, and many people were using their reticulation.

Busselton Water has launched a waterwise competition, and locals are encouraged to email their garden set-ups to admin@ busseltonwater.wa.gov.au by March 5.
