Robert George Dent pleads not guilty to murdering parents Colin and Bernice at their Capel home

A Capel man accused of murdering his parents in the family home will stand trial over the shocking crime claiming he is not guilty because he was of unsound mind at the time. Robert George Dent appeared in Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court on Wednesday charged with murdering his father, Colin, and mother, Bernice, at their Berkshire Street home on September 24. During the hearing, his lawyer Ashlee Taylor said her client had previously denied the offences and the matter was ready to be committed to the Supreme Court. Mr Dent formally entered his not guilty pleas on Wednesday. His parents, Colin and Bernice, were well known in the Capel community. Mr Dent, 75, worked at the Capel Shire and only retired five years ago, while Mrs Dent, 74, was also understood to be an active community member. Robert Dent, who has been remanded in custody at the Frankland Centre, a secure psychiatric facility, is next expected to appear in court in October.
