Belmont car chase: Police hunt driver after dangerous high-speed police pursuit called off

Police are on the hunt for a driver who led them on a high-speed car chase so dangerous it had to be called off.
Police said that they activated their lights and sirens after spotting a black Toyota Landcruiser station sedan driving on Hardy Road near Great Eastern Highway in Belmont about 10.45pm on Monday.
The driver sped away, leading police on a high-speed pursuit through Greenmount and Herne Hill before losing sight of the vehicle near Tonkin and Leach highways.
About midnight, police again spotted the Landcruiser driving in Dayton and re-commenced the pursuit.
Police called off the chase in The Vines because of “safety concerns”.
Inquiries are ongoing.
