Car hits multiple pedestrians in British city centre

A man has been arrested after multiple pedestrians were struck by a car in the centre of Britain's city of Derby.
Derbyshire Police said a number of people were injured, some seriously, in the incident which occurred in the CBD on Saturday night.
Police said a black Suzuki Swift was stopped after the incident in Friar Gate at about 9:30pm (8:30am Sunday AEDT).
Some victims were seriously injured and treated at the scene by ambulance crews before being taken to hospital, police said.
The driver, a man in his 30s, was arrested and taken into police custody.

Sign up"Although we know this will be alarming, we would like to reassure people that we do not believe there is an ongoing risk to the public," police said in a statement on Facebook.
Derby is in the East Midlands region, 180km north of London.
