A fisherman is suspected to have been taken by a crocodile in far north Queensland, with a search for the missing man continuing.

Emergency services were called to Annan River Bridge in Cooktown on Saturday afternoon over reports a 40-year-old man from NSW had been taken by a crocodile.

It’s believed he had been fishing on a riverbank when he fell into the water and failed to resurface, Queensland Police said.

Paramedics and other emergency services have been looking for a male patient after a reported croc attack near the Milligan Highway, the state’s ambulance service posted to X, formerly Twitter.

Wildlife officers are at the scene and involved in the operation.
