Bentley mum killed, girl injured in ‘family violence incident’ at home on Mills Street, teen son in custody

A mother has been killed and a young girl seriously injured in what police believe to be a family violence incident at a Perth home.

Police have taken the deceased woman’s teenage son into custody.

Officers rushed to a property on Mills Street in Bentley about 6.15am where they found a 35-year-old female dead.

The 12-year-old girl was found with serious injuries about 600 metres away after fleeing the home and managing to call police.

Members of the public stepped in when they saw the girl, who was found near Albany Highway during peak-hour traffic.

She was treated by paramedics and taken to Perth Children’s Hospital where she remains in a serious but stable condition.

Detective Acting Inspector Jessica Securo from the Major Crime Division said police will investigate the matter as a suspected family violence homicide.

Injuries of the victims were consistent with stab wounds, she said.

The suspect was known to police, with detectives still examining his specific past interactions.

“There are multiple police and detectives out of the scene. They’re doing things like door knocks, CCTV canvasses,” Detective Acting Inspector Securo said.

“I do encourage any neighbours or any witnesses who have information, please come forward, contact Crime Stoppers or approach some police that are at the scene.”
