WA Police has issued a warning to Northbridge thugs that they are coming for them ahead of a crackdown in the entertainment precinct following the death of a nightclub manager in an alleged assault.

Paramount nightclub manager Giuseppe Raco died in hospital on Monday after spending the previous night on life support.

Mr Raco, a 40-year-old father of one, was struck during an altercation outside a Northbridge kebab shop in the inner city on Saturday morning.

Jaylen Denny Dimer, 26 is behind bars over the alleged attack after police charged him with grievous bodily harm.

WA Police acting Commander Tony Flack said police would await the results of Mr Raco’s post-mortem before considering whether to upgrade the charge.

“I’ve been a police officer for over 40 years and I continue to be personally and professionally saddened and frustrated,” Cmdr Flack said.

“We know now many lives are going to be destroyed by what we will allege to be an act of thoughtless violence.”

With pubs and clubs back open and subject to few remaining restrictions, police are concerned there might be a return to pre-pandemic behaviour in the Northbridge nightclub precinct.

Police numbers on the streets of Northbridge would increase from this weekend.

“Given how quickly it seems to have returned ... we’ll return to a strong visual presence in Northbridge,” Cmdr Flack told 6PR radio on Tuesday.

“This is not about closing things down, this is about targeting those who are clearly not out there to have a good time and enjoy themselves.”

Speaking generally about Northbridge, Cmdr Flack said unfortunately people for whom violence and alcohol and drug use was the norm were often attracted by entertainment precincts.

“I don’t pretend to understand what motivates and drives some people but I can promise them we will respond,” he warned.

Police are continuing to seek witnesses to Mr Raco’s assault, including two women who helped him immediately after the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers.
