A man has avoided injury following a fiery crash in Victoria Park.

It is understood a Subaru ran into a traffic light pole on Shepperton Road near Mint Street just after 1am on Friday.

A witness said the car then “dragged across the road” and caught fire.

Bystanders at the scene helped the driver, understood to be the sole occupant of the car, get out safely.

He was treated by St John Ambulance paramedics at the scene and questioned by police.
