Geraldton residents loan more than 60 generators to Northampton, as town enters second week without power

More than 60 generators have been delivered to Northampton, as the community marks one week since cyclone Seroja left the town without power.

With power now restored in Geraldton, the City of Greater Geraldton put a call out for residents to lend their generators to their Northampton neighbours still without power.

Mayor Shane Van Styn said 61 generators had been collected, with the first batch delivered to Northampton on Saturday and the remaining machines reaching homes on Monday.

Mr Van Styn, who was in Northampton yesterday, said there may be more opportunities for Geraldton residents to help neighbouring cyclone-affected communities in the coming weeks.

“We will be in touch with more details about how people can help once we get a co-ordinated response,” he said.

“It is a matter of looking out for the rural areas, the outlying areas not just the Shire of Northampton… The Lord Mayor’s Distress Relief Fund is also open for donations.”

Generators will be returned to Geraldton residents after power is restored to Northampton.
