A 25-year-old woman will appear in court next week charged with unlawful wounding after she allegedly glassed a 16-year-old girl in Karloo on Friday night.

Police say the 25-year-old hit the teenager with a glass bottle at about 1am during a street brawl between two families with “ongoing issues”.

Geraldton Police Station officer in charge Senior Sergeant Chris Martin said officers who were called to the scene found the 16-year-old bleeding profusely from cuts to the back of her neck and arm.

The teenager was taken by ambulance to Geraldton Regional Hospital with non-life threatening injuries and has since been discharged.

Senior Sergeant Martin said police were called to a number of “large scale disturbances” on the weekend and pleaded with the warring families to sort out their differences.

“It’s not good for the community,” he said.

“We are currently engaged with those families to identify the crux of the issue and come up with some sort of mediation between the two groups.

“At the end of the day we have to come to a resolution. The general disturbances need to stop immediately.”

The 25-year-old woman, who was immediately arrested and charged over the glassing, will front Geraldton Magistrate’s Court on November 4.
