
The price of diesel in Geraldton has finally dropped, to the relief of motorists and farmers who are paying 40¢ a litre less compared to start of the month.
Despite ongoing supply issues as the Middle East war continues, prices have fallen significantly over the past few weeks, and industry leaders have reported that shortage issues have largely cleared up.
With the Federal and State governments taking measures such as cutting the fuel excise for three months and releasing 20 per cent of their emergency fuel reserves, price cuts have reached regional areas.
The average diesel price in Geraldton on Thursday was $2.70/litre, with the most affordable diesel at United Rangeway Truck Stop, which cost $2.53/litre, and Atlas Fuel Geraldton, which had its diesel priced at $2.54/litre.
The most expensive diesel on Thursday was Shell Geraldton Truckstop at $2.87/litre and Metro Geraldton at $2.83/litre.
This is a huge decrease from the start of the month, when motorists couldn’t buy diesel in Geraldton for less than $3 a litre.
At the beginning of April, Moonyoonooka Store had the priciest diesel in town, at $3.37/litre, which had dropped to $2.73/litre on Thursday.
Thursday’s prices mean diesel prices have dropped by more than 40¢ per litre, with the average diesel price in Geraldton at the start of April $3.11/litre.
At a time when farmers are relying on diesel for seeding season, the price drop is a welcome relief.
ULP has also seen a significant price drop in the last few weeks, with an average of $1.91/litre across Geraldton service stations on Thursday.
The lowest price in Geraldton was Ampol Foodary at $1.83/litre, while 7-Eleven had the most expensive petrol at $2.03/litre. They were the only service station to price their ULP above $2 a litre.
This is a huge change from the start of the month, when unleaded for less than than $2.15/litre was not possible.
The average was $2.39/litre at the start of April, nearly 50¢ more than current prices.
