Katanning Tennis Club championships deliver thrilling matches and strong competition

The courts were buzzing in Katanning as local talent went head-to-head in the annual club championships with three weeks of tight contests wrapping up on March 29.
Open to members of the Katanning Tennis Club, the 2026 championships delivered strong numbers and high quality tennis with players battling it out across singles and doubles formats in a competitive yet social atmosphere.
In the men’s singles Geoff Stade claimed the title, defeating Eric Rae in the final while Jodie Martens proved dominant in the women’s draw, taking out the championship ahead of Emily Pinney.

Martens capped off a standout tournament, also teaming up with Pinney to win the women’s doubles against Jane and Katrina Kowald and then pairing with Rae to secure the mixed doubles win ahead of Pinney and Stade.
In the men’s doubles, Hamish Thompson and Simon Kerin combined strongly to take the title over Rae and Brett Wilkie.
Club president Simon Kerin said the championships were a success both on and off the court.
“We had good numbers compared to other years and I think the competition and the quality of the tennis was really good,” he said.
“There was a lot of tight games that went into super tie breaks so it was really good competition.
“It’s always a really good night, good evening and a good social event.”
With the championships wrapped up, the club is shifting their focus to the upcoming winter pennants competition.
