The Shire of Broomehill-Tambellup has marked the completion of the first stage of the Tambellup Caravan Park, with a community open day held on April 10.
The first stage includes three cabins and a new laundry, with further cabins and broader caravan facilities planned as part of a staged delivery approach.
The project delivers new short-stay accommodation for the region due to demand from local workers, while also laying the groundwork for future tourism growth in the area.
Shire president Doug Barritt said the development represented practical investment in the community’s future.
“These first cabins and supporting infrastructure give us a strong foundation,” he said.
“In the short term, they support local workers, and over time they will strengthen our tourism offering and bring more people into the district.”
Members of the community, visitors and neighbouring shires attended the open day, where councillors marked the milestone with an official ribbon cutting ceremony.
As part of the open day, the shire also announced the names of the cabins which were selected through a community process with 70 submissions received.
The winning theme was wildlife, with the cabins named Carnaby Cockatoo, Black Swan and Tammar Wallaby.
The shire has confirmed the finishing touches were being added to the cabins, with balustrading and permanent steps currently being installed.
Bookings will be open once the final works are complete, and in the meantime the shire encouraged visitors to utilise the accommodation available at Broomehill Caravan Park.
