A picturesque South West beach regarded as one of Western Australia’s best-kept secrets is set for a major rehabilitation after securing a State Government grant. The Shire of Harvey, in partnership with the Binningup Coastcare and Environment Group, successfully obtained $25,000 in Coastwest funding for the Binningup coast.

The grant will be used to rehabilitate sand dunes after the construction of sand fences from the beach’s northern and southern ends in the coming months. Native seedlings will be planted among the dunes and protected by shadecloth as well as jute matting.

Harvey Shire president Paul Gillett said it was important to ensure the coast was protected for future generations and thanked the Binningup community for their ongoing support.

Coastwest is an expansion of the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage and Department of Transport’s current coastal planning and management grants and a response to the Statewide assessment of coastal erosion hotspots in WA.
