South West fishers are being asked to take part in a short survey which aims to shape the region’s trout-fishing future.

Recfishwest has created a 10-minute online survey to let freshwater anglers have their say on South West trout stocks and fishing locations.

The organisation has also created a free smartphone app to allow fishers to log their catch, which will help with fish-stocking programs in the future.

“We’re collecting information on current freshwater fishing activities and determining what trout enthusiasts want from the South West fishery,” Recfishwest operations officer Aaron Moses said.

“Better informed future trout stocking strategies and programs in the region will be important in stocking fish in the most ideal areas,” Mr Moses said.

“The app promotes a citizen science drive by anglers who are passionate about the freshwater fishery and care about achieving better outcomes for the future of the State’s freshwater fishing.”
