Tourists flood Preston

Preston Beach was inundated with tourists last week, with families opting to head to the seaside town for the first school holidays since COVID-19 travel restrictions were lifted.

Preston Beach General Store owner Clint Vagg said he had seen a 50 per cent rise in tourism over the past few months.

He believed West Aussies were feeling more comfortable to travel and were taking advantage of the picturesque location.

“People come to Preston Beach because it is where the country meets the coast,” Mr Vagg said.

“We are getting tourists from Bunbury, Mandurah, Waroona, Harvey, Broome and everywhere in between at the moment.

“It is great for the town.”

Mr Vagg said the town previously got a lot of interstate travellers and even German travellers before the pandemic barred visitors to the State.

He said fishing gear, fish and chips and ice-creams were all popular with the tourists.
