Would you get Premier Mark McGowan’s signature tattooed on your body? One Cookernup resident has.

Jac Taylor vowed to get a tattoo of the town’s old postcode — if it was reinstated by Australia Post.

The postcode fight sparked the attention of the Premier who helped push for the reinstatement of 6219.

In August last year, Australia Post agreed to reinstate the town’s postcode and, being a woman of her word, Mrs Taylor committed to the tattoo pledge and had the ink work completed on July 10.

To thank the Premier for his help, Mrs Taylor went a step further and even got his signature imprinted on her skin.

She also had Murray-Wellington MLA Robyn Clarke’s signature tattooed on her body to say thank you for her efforts in fighting for Cookernup’s identity.

“Cookernup is all about the community,” Mrs Taylor said. “For us, this was a fight for our identity and Robyn and Mark fought for us.

“They treated me as an equal and didn’t look down on me.”

She said the postcode was a win for the community after it was left shaken by the 2016 Waroona-Yarloop bushfires.

“It really brought us together and we are tighter than ever,” Mrs Taylor said, adding the Cookernup community came together each week for “watch-out Wednesday”.

“We gather over a bowl of soup and check up on each other,” she said.

“I live for Wednesday — it is the only way I know what day of the week it is.”

Mrs Clarke said she gifted Mrs Taylor with the tattoo as a 50th birthday present.

She said Mr McGowan had been asking if Mrs Taylor had the tattoo and was surprised that someone wanted his signature tattooed on them.

Mrs Clarke watched the four-hour tattoo procedure, but had to look away at certain times because she was afraid of the procedure.

Along with the politicians’ names and postcode, the old Cookernup Post Office is also featured in the design.
