Domino’s will this weekend disprove the idiom “when pigs fly” — which means something will never happen — following supply chain disruptions into WA.

The pizza giant will fly almost 500kg of bacon into WA to ensure customers can enjoy their favourite pizzas during the Easter long weekend.

The much-loved pizza topping is usually delivered by train on the east-west rail line which has been closed since March 10 because of significant flooding in the Nullarbor region.

Last Friday, Australian Rail Track Corporation announced the rail corridor would remain closed until Easter Saturday.

To combat the supply chain disruption, Domino’s bacon supplies will be transported more than 2700km from Melbourne to Perth and delivered to stores across WA, including Domino’s Pizza Kalgoorlie.

Domino’s ANZ supply chain manager Vanessa Muller said this would ensure customers in Kalgoorlie-Boulder could enjoy bacon on their favourite pizzas this long weekend.

“We know how much our customers love their bacon, and we’re committed to doing everything we can to make sure they can enjoy their favourite pizzas, even in the face of supply chain disruptions,” Ms Muller said.

“We’re grateful to our dedicated team members who have worked tirelessly to make this happen, and we’re looking forward to serving up delicious, bacon-topped pizzas to our customers this long weekend.”

Domino’s Western Australia multi-unit franchise partner Justin Munro said it was a privilege to be able serve up hot and fresh pizza to his local community this weekend.

“In a time where many other businesses would say no or too hard, Domino’s is quite literally making pigs fly,” Mr Munro said.
