Kambalda’s hopes of a big finish to the 2026 season in the Goldfields Football League could hinge on the squad’s fortunes across the next three matches.
This Saturday’s round 14 clash against Kalgoorlie is a golden opportunity to open their winning account in 2026 against fourth-placed opposition.
The downside is that the match at Sir Richard Moore Sports Centre is the first of three consecutive away games for the Eagles, who sit three games and percentage outside the top-four.
And two of Kalgoorlie’s three wins this season have been against Kambalda — by margins of 86 points and 49 points, and they also upset first-placed Boulder by five points in round 12.
After this weekend, Kambalda play Mines Rovers and Boulder at Digger Daws Oval before rounding out the qualifiers with three home games, starting on August 8 against Railways.
That clash will coincide with a special 50th anniversary reunion of the Eagles’ 1976 league and reserves premierships, from 12.30pm.
It follows an initial reunion in May of 1976 premiership players at Perth’s Raffles Hotel.
In 1976, Kambalda were just seven years into their existence in the GFL when they claimed an inaugural premiership with a team led by captain-coach John Hoare that defeated Railways in the grand final by 60 points.
