Kelman, Reid lead Panthers’ fourth win in bright start to GFLW season

Railways remain a game clear atop the Goldfields Football League women’s standings after a four-goal to none first half paved the way for a 50-point win, 7.11 (53) to 0.3 (3), last Saturday against Kalgoorlie.

Under coach Cory Jones, Railways are determined to go one better in 2024 after grand final defeats in each of the past two seasons.

Both were against Kalgoorlie, who have launched their pursuit of a third consecutive flag without a long line of personnel from last year.

After leading by 32 points at half-time, Railways were held to a behind in the third term but they iced the game in the run home with 3.2.

Railways’ effort was led by Marley Kelman, who kicked two goals.

Kelman leads the GFLW goal kicking with 11 majors and has featured among the best players in four of the side’s five games.

Amie Reid also bagged two goals as Railways extended their record to four wins and a draw.

Kalgoorlie’s lone victory was chalked up in round four against Kambalda.

In round seven on Saturday, Boulder host Kalgoorlie at Digger Daws Oval at 9am, and Kambalda have home-ground advantage against Mines Rovers at 11am.
