A picnic under the stars to the sound of live music and local stories is now on the calendar for Coolgardie residents and visitors.

Hosted by the Shire of Coolgardie on February 4, the Live Music and Stories event will bring together three storytellers with a connection to the region.

Goldfields bush poet and Vietnam veteran Vic Dale will join Ange Leech and Drew Goddard to share local sounds and stories.

Now enjoying his retirement in Coolgardie, Dale is a well-known historian, poet and community member.

The gig will also hold a special place in singer-songwriter Leech’s heart as her last gig in the Goldfields — for now.

Soon to be relocating to the Pilbara, Leech said she had enjoyed her time in the region and had been recently been recording with Barefoot Bands in Coolgardie.

“Recording with Drew (Goddard) in the Barefoot Bands recording space has been an amazing experience — it has definitely been on my bucket list for some time,” she said,

“It is awesome to have the opportunity to have access to such an awesome local recording space and expertise.

“I often use symbolism and humour to package ideas informed by social justice and issues I am concerned with. I think music is an awesome means to expressing ideas and concerns about the world around you.”

Performing at the Coolgardie Warden Finnerty Residence, the three artists will perform a collection of songs, poems and stories to celebrate the town together.

Entry for those 16 and older will be $5.
