Racing duo continue dynamic form with Mayoral Cup triumph

The owner-trainer duo of Andrew Inglis and Peter Fernie combined for more success with Talk It Up’s decisive victory in last Sunday’s $22,000 City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder Mayoral Cup (1100m) at Kalgoorlie-Boulder Racing Club.
Brayden Gaerth-ridden Talk It Up ($2.80 favourite) outlasted Neil Dellar-trained Double Spice ($3.80) to deliver the second leg of a winning treble and continue a dominant campaign for Fernie and his team.
The Fernie juggernaut has already tallied 29 winners and began on Sunday when Clinton Johnston-Porter enjoyed the first of his two winners aboard Heavenly Miss ($3 equal favourite) in the Ruby Tourist Tram Maiden (1400m).
Johnston-Porter followed up in race five when he guided Hole In One ($2.70) to a victory over stablemate Hidden Ruby ($2.25 favourite) in the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Airport/Gateway To The Goldfields Handicap (1100m).
Joanne Forrest-trained outsider Boondi Rocks ($26) finished third.
The seven-event card began with the Gary Bowen-trained Aidan’s Choice ($2.90 favourite), ridden by Brandon Louis, successful over 1200m.
Austin Galati guided Jag The Joker ($3.20 favourite) to an impressive win over 1200m for trainer Austin Maley and Michael Poy rode the last two winners on Dawn Enigma ($16) and Vinyl ($4.80 equal favourite) for trainers Brian Curtis and Rickie Brown respectively.
Fernie’s brilliant form has paved the way for a big lead over Pearce Racing for trainer of the year honours.
Pearce Racing headed into last Sunday’s meeting 19 winners adrift of the perennial champion horseman.
The KBRC’s next meeting is on July 2.
Upcoming races include the Kambalda Cup on August 13 and Tattersalls Cup on August 27 before attention switches to the major events of the Race Round, including the Coolgardie Cup on September 10.
