Lotto: WA FIFO worker becomes overnight millionaire after nabbing entire Millionaire Medley jackpot

A FIFO rigger has unexpectedly become WA’s newest millionaire after a last-minute switch scooped him a huge windfall — but he’s refusing to hang up his tools just yet.

The 45-year-old WA man nabbed the entire division one Millionaire Medley jackpot last Friday, earning him a cushy $1 million cash prize.

The lucky punter had been a religious player of Lotterywest’s Set for Life game, but decided to grab a Millionaire Medley ticket at the last minute when his regular game was temporarily unavailable.

The sudden switch worked out well for the rigger — who discovered that his ticket was the lucky winner while he was out for dinner with his daughter.

“I called my mum and asked her to check it because I thought I had to be seeing things,” he revealed.

His mum will be the first to benefit from the life-changing windfall, with the winner saying his first splurge will be to pay off her mortgage.

Next on the Sandgroper’s list? Purchasing a new home for him and his partner.

“I started house hunting straight away and we’ve already been to some home opens, even before collecting the prize money,” he said.

The massive windfall landed right after the couple had already completed a move into a new rental, but the winner said it was worth relocating again so soon for their own home.

“I’m happy to move all the furniture again if it’s into our own place,” he said.

The FIFO worker wasn’t done sharing his fortune there, however — revealing that his 18-year-old son, who spends his days as a carer for his grandmother, would also nab some of the prize pool.

“He can do some courses, get his licence and do some things that will help set him up for life too,” the punter said.

Despite being WA’s newest millionaire, the FIFO rigger said he was far from ready to hang up his tools.

“I told my boss I’d won and that ‘d still be coming to work because I love what I do,” he said.

“Even if I won $20 million, I’d still be there the next day.”

Lotterywest spokesperson Nikki Wilson-Smith said the FIFO worker’s jackpot win was a good reminder for all punters that major wins can happen regardless of the game.

“While he may not have expected to play a different game that day, the outcome has certainly delivered a life-changing result for him and his family,” she said.

The winning numbers for his Millionaire Medley were 5, 20, 40, 21, 36, and 8. The supplementary numbers were 1 and 19.
