Ground has been broken on the West Arthur pump track, with the new project expected to support wellness and youth, and to boost the local economy.

Pump tracks are designed to maximise momentum and enable users to ride with minimal pedalling, and have become more popular in recent years.

The new track at Darkan Skate Park is envisaged to help strengthen the community by providing a place for children and adults to make connections and learn new skills.

Shire community services manager Kym Gibbs said the track would have low maintenance costs and could be used by everyone. “Our track will have an asphalt surface which will be very low-maintenance but also allows for all ages, abilities and uses, such as skateboards, BMX, mountain bikes, rollerblades and scooters,” she said.
